May 10, 2010

The Meeting was called to order at 7:06 PM

Mohawk Valley BassCasters Meeting Minutes for April 12, 2010:            Read and Accepted.

Treasurers Report for May 10, 2010:                  Read and Accepted.

Connecticut Federation Nation Report for April 2010:

  • Carl, Armand and Nick G. won the $5,000 prize for their commercial they made for Evan Williams Bourbon.
  • Law passed for license fee credit due to those who paid the higher license fee earlier in 2010.  The credit will be applied when you purchase your license next year (in 2011).
  • Morris voters voted down a deal with the State DEP to have the DEP run the Bantam Boat Launch.  Most likely non-residents will have to pay a fee to launch to help offset the costs the town will incur to maintain the launch themselves.
  • June 19, 2010 is riverfront Recaptures “Sporting Chance for Youth”.  Contact Dave Santos if you can help out at this event.
  • On Candlewood there are 1300 private docks and all of the bouys are out at this time.
  • Two new CBFN sponsors provided presentations. – FISH-E-GRIP –  (www.fish-e-grip.com) and U.S. Reels. (www.usreel.com).    See their website for more information

Tournament Report:

  • Bantam Lake Tournament Results:  Tournament held on Sunday April 18, 2010.  Winning team was Kevin N. and Jim R. with 26.04 lbs.  Lunker was a 6.18 LMB caught by Kevin N.
  • Next tournament will be held on Twin Lakes Saturday May 15, 2010.  Tournament Time voted to be 7:00 – 3:00 PM.  Boat positions drawn.  E-mail Dean R. boat registration numbers.  Motion was made and passed to have the club pay the launch fee ($10/boat).  Approximately 12 boats will be fishing this event.  Meet at the Route 6/Route 8 commuter parking lot at 5:15 AM.

Old Business:

  • Fun Fishing Event – June 5, 2010 at Lake MCDonough in New Hartford.   Insurance policy is in place as required by the MDC.

New Business:

  • Perspective new member Mark VanNormer attended this months meeting.  Tom O. explained to Mark club dues, and other items integral to the club.
  • Scott R. presented lures by Toads
  • Members were notified that Ron’s father has passed away.  A motion was made and passed to send Ron and his family a $75 wine basket.
  • Members were made aware that the CT State Record rock bass weighs 1.3 lbs.

June 14, 2010

The Meeting was called to order at 7:02 PM

Connecticut Federation Nation Report for May 2010:

  • NO REPORT – Carl was not present at this MVBC Club Meeting due to medical reasons.

Tournament Report:

  • Twin Lake tournament was held on Saturday May 15, 2010.  The first place team of Steve D. and Greg M. caught 13.80 lbs. with the best individual weight being brought in by Steve D. (10.11 lbs.).  Steve also brought in a lunker LMB weighing 4.22 lbs.
  • Next tournament is to be held on Moodus Reservoir on June 26, 2010. Tournament hours are 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM.  Meet at the supermarket parking lot at the corner of Route 16 and 149 in Moodus at 5:00 AM.  Bristol guys meet at Staples at 4:00 AM.  Boat numbers were chosen.

Old Business:

  • Family Derby – The first ever Family Derby was a success.  Thanks to Dean R. for organizing this event and to Jim B and Morrie A. who made camp and cooked for the event.
  • Perspective new member – Perspective new member Mark Van Wormer was voted on as a new club member.  With one “No” vote and the rest “Yes”, Mark was voted in as the newest member of the MVBC.
  • Ron wished to thank the MVBC members for the donation to his family during their recent time of sorrow following the passing of his father “Big Papa Ron”.

New Business:

  • It is with great sorrow that we were notified that Sam W.’s mom has passed away.  MVBC members were notified that the funeral is on Friday 6/18/10 down in FL.  A motion was made and passed to send a $75 flower arrangement down to the funeral home.
  • Summer Picnic – dates were suggested for his year’s summer picnic.  The dates of 8/1 and 8/8 were being considered.  It was also discussed to ask Steve and Sue if they would again host the picnic at their cottage on Bashan Lake.  More info. Will be provided at the next meeting.
  • Two Day Pairing Meeting – A motion was made and passed to host this years pairings meeting at the Bristol Polish Club. It is scheduled for September 28, 2010.
  • Summer Food Drive – A suggested date of July 17 was brought up for this years summer food drive.  More info. Will be coming.
  • Greg M. Notified the membership that he has assumed the roll of liaisons between the New England Paralyzed Veterans Association (NEPVA) Bass fishing organization and the State of CT.

Connecticut Federation Nation Report for May 2010:

  • CMTA Boat Show will be held from 1/28/11-1/30/11.  This is Friday to Sunday.  The show has been cut one day short.  There is no Thursday date.
  • Members fishing the next Federation Tournament on Candlewood are reminded to read the Agenda posted on the www.ctbass.com message board before the tournament.
  • Mr. Bass / Brian Kerchal Tournament of Champions is to be held July 31, 2010 at Candlewood Lake.  There is a $100 entry fee for each clubs Mr. Bass plus each club is to provide a co-angler for the day.  There is no entry fee for the co-angler but there is a payout to the top three co-anglers.
  • Jr. Club – Terry Baksay is looking for boat captains.  Contact Terry if you can help out.
  • Benefit Tournament for Mike Greenhill.  9/12/10 on Candlewood.  $150/team with 70% payout.  Launching out of the Danbury Town Launch.
  • Tee Shirts to benefit the regionals are in.  See Rich B. if you would like a tee shirt.  They are $14 each.

Tournament Report:

  • Our third tournament of the season was held on Moodus Reservoir June 26, 2010. The first place team of Steve D. and Ron G. caught 17.50 lbs. with the best individual weight being brought in by Steve D. (12.12 lbs.).  Steve also brought in a lunker LMB weighing 6.45 lbs.
  • Carl P. donated an aerator for the revival tank.
  • Our fourth tournament will be held on Lake Lillinonah July 24, 2010.  Tournament hours are 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM.  Leave the Exit 10 diner by 5:00 AM.  Boat positions were picked.  Club members were reminded that this is a 3 fish limit tournament.
  • Our fifth tournament will be held on Candlewood August 7, 2010,  Tournament hours are 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM.  Leave the Exit 10 diner by 5:45.  Boat positions were picked.  Club members were reminded that this is a 3 fish limit tournament..

Old Business:

  • Summer Picnic – The date for this years summer picnic is August 1, 2010.  Steve and Sue will again host this event at their cottage on Bashan Lake.  The start time is approximately 11:00 AM.  Call Sue Deguzis to let her know what you are going to bring.  This event is BYOB.
  • Mr. Bass – A motion was made a passed for the club to pay the $100 entry fee for Mr. Bass.  Clemente was chosen to be this year’s co-angler by blind draw.
  • Food Drive – This years food drive is scheduled for July 17, 2010 at the Stop & Shop in Forestville, CT.  Time is 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon.  Greg M. to provide his Skeeter Bass Boat for this event.
  • $81.85 was spent on flowers for Sam’s Mom’s funeral.
  • $238.00 was spent on the Regional tee shirts.

New Business:

  • Carl needs a roster with all member info including BASS number and expiration date to provide to the CBFN.

August 9, 2010

The Meeting was called to order at 7:04 PM

Connecticut Federation Nation Report for July 2010:  (NOTE:  Carl could not make the meeting but Armand was there to represent the club and to take notes.)

  • A new Tournament Trail for 2011 was proposed.  Essentially the trail would be compressed from 4 regular season events to 3 regular season events plus the Classic.  (Currently there are 4 regular season events plus the Classic.)  Angler and Co-Angler entry fees would increase for each event but the payout would also increase.  Instead of the top 30 Anglers and Co-Anglers making the classic the number of eligible fisherman would increase to 40.  After some discussion by MVBC members about the proposed Tournament Trail change, a motion was made and PASSED to vote in favor of the change at the next CTBFN meeting..
  • Tee Shirts to benefit the regionals are in.  See Rich B. if you would like a tee shirt.  They are $14 each.

Tournament Report:

  • Our fourth tournament of the season was held on Lake Lillinonah July 24, 2010. The first place team of Steve D. and Jason R. caught 15.39 lbs. with the best individual weight being brought in by Steve D. (9.08 lbs. for a three fish limit).  Steve also brought in a lunker LMB weighing 3.73 lbs.
  • Our fifth tournament of the season was held on Candlewood Lake August 7, 2010. The first place team of Carl P. and Jason R. caught 17.77 lbs. with the best individual weight being brought in by Jason R. (10.28 lbs. for a three fish limit).  The lunker for the day was caught by Kevin N.  A 4.19 lb. SMB.
  • The current Angler of the Year standings has Steve D. in first place.  Kevin N. in second with Dean R. in third.
  • Our sixth tournament will be held on Congamond Lake Friday night August 20, 2010.  Tournament hours are 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM Saturday morning.  Members are to meet at St. Gregory’s church in Bristol, CT  (corner of Stafford Ave. & Maltby St.) Boat positions were picked.  Club members were reminded that this is a 3 fish limit tournament.

Old Business:

  • Mr. Bass – Kevin N. thanked the membership for sponsoring him for this event.  (The club paid the $100 entry fee.).  It was also noted that our own “Clemente R.” won first place in the Co-Angler division for this event.
  • Food Drive – This years food drive was held on July 17, 2010 at the Stop & Shop in Forestville, CT.  Donations were way down with not much food collected.  It was recommended that for next year more signs be placed near the store advertising what we are doing.
  • Regional Tee Shirts – Buy yours today from Rich B.!!
  • Kevin N. gave Carl an updated roster to provide to the CTBFN.

New Business:

  • Wounded Warriors – Carl and Greg fished a Wounded Warriors event on Friday August 6, 2010 on the Connecticut River out of Hartford.  It was a well-received event.  Joe Kowalski from the CTBFN ran the fishing portion of the event.
