After month’s of planning by our President Tom, M.V.B.C. was able to give back a little something to some Cub Scouts of Sandy Hook affected by the shooting that shook our state last December. On September 28, 2013 8 Cub Scouts that had lost 2 of their own during that horrific day were treated to a few hours of fun and fishing. 11 M.V.B.C. members and 5 juniors from the C.B.N. brought the scouts to Candlewood Lake. We started the day going over knots and all the basics of fishing which included putting line on their very own rods and reels that were so generously donated by Shimano (thanks Chris) M.V.B.C. also donated tackle bags and lures to make sure each scout was equipped for a day of fishing. After the equipment was set scout was assigned to one M.V.B.C. member and was taken out on the water for a few hours to put what they learned to the test and complete even more requirements for their 2 badges they would be working on that day. Some scouts had never been fishing or even been out on a boat before so this was an exciting day for all. The fishing was tough but boys got to feel the magical tug on the end of the line we all strive for each day we hit the water. While most were on the water 2 members from our club along with family members started up the grill so that lunch would be ready when everyone came off the water. I think it is easy to say that this is a day none of us will forget for a long time.
